The Grammy Awards, often referred to as the Grammys, are awards presented by the Recording Academy of the United States to recognize outstanding achievements in music. They are regarded by many as the most prestigious and significant awards in the music industry worldwide. The 67th Annual Grammy Awards were held last Sunday. Sunday night's show opened with a celebration of Los Angeles, a highly intentional theme that continued throughout the night.

This award show didn’t go so smoothly. For example, Kanye West and Bianca Censori appeared on the red carpet and stunned everyone. Bianca wore a completely transparent dress. After that, Kanye West and Bianca Censori were escorted out of the 2025 Grammys. An insider reports that police removed the couple after they attempted to replicate the Vultures 1 album cover, which features Censori facing backward in high boots and minimal clothing.

Will Smith was also at the Grammys to lead a tribute to the late great Quincy Jones, who produced Smith’s ’90s sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”

Kimmel joked and said, "And you know what’s a shame? Will Smith, all he had to do was run out on that red carpet and slap Kanye. I think all would be forgiven. He would be hosting the Oscars next year.” The talk show host was referring to when Smith slapped Chris Rock across the face at the Oscars in 2022. Smith was banned from attending the event for 10 years.

Another unexpected event at the 2025 Grammys is that Beyoncé won Album of the Year for Cowboy Carter, her first win in the category after four nominations. She became the first Black woman to take Album of the Year since Lauryn Hill in 1999.

But the decision faced much criticism. Supporters of other nominees, especially Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift, took to online platforms, labeling the event "Scammys." They felt Eilish's Hit Me Hard and Soft and Swift's The Tortured Poets Department were more deserving of the award.

At the ceremony, Billie Eilish was up for seven nominations, including Album of the Year, and walked away empty-handed. People online noted that she visibly appeared emotional upon the announcement of Beyoncé's win.

During the aftermath, Finneas, an artist and Billie Eilish's brother, took to social media in order to talk to the fans. He thanked them for the nominations, asked the fans not to be negative toward supporters of other artists, and pleaded for peace; he even congratulated the winner in advance.

These incidents started a fresh debate about the Grammys’ voting system and whether the awards are fair enough to recognize an artist's hard work. Even though there were some inconveniences, some of the Grammy award winners are:

Album of the year: "Cowboy Carter," Beyoncé,

Song of the year: “Not Like Us,” Kendrick Lamar,

Best pop solo performance: “Espresso,” Sabrina Carpenter

Best pop duo/group performance: “Die With a Smile,” Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars

Best rock performance: “Now and Then,” The Beatles

Best rock album: “Hackney Diamonds,” The Rolling Stones

Despite the drama and surprises, the 67th Grammys were a night of music, emotion, and history. Beyoncé’s big win sparked debate, while unforgettable performances and heartfelt tributes kept the spotlight on the music.
